Tribal make-up: vector of identity

Le maquillage tribal : vecteur d'identité - Afro Garden

makeup

Tribal makeup plays an identity role in many African peoples. In the form of clay, or paint, it has various meanings including:

  • Hunting, religious or traditional affiliation, it can also be used for military purposes.
  • The social distinction between men and women.
  • The rank of a person, indeed the higher the rank, the more the makeup is worked.

Similarly, each color has its interpretation:

  • Black symbolizes power, evil, death and mystery
  • Purple represents royalty, luxury, wisdom and passion.
  • Red stands for danger and boldness.
  • Blue embodies peace, calm, trust and affection.
  • Green signifies life, growth, freshness and healing.
  • White denotes hope, purity and light.

Today tribal makeup has become globalized, many women wear it to celebrate beauty and pay homage to African culture.

If you also want to highlight tribal makeup, the illustration and/or the " Ethnic Vibes " mug is available on the eshop in the " Posters " section.
